Diddy & T.I. for “Shot Caller (Remix)”

From his popular “Cocaine City” street DVDs to his latest banger, “Shot Caller,” one of the most played records on New York radio station, Hot 97, French Montana has never lacked big name cosigns from his peers.

The Bronx rapper recently completed filming the video for his aforementioned breakout single and he has cameos from the likes of N.O.R.E., Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe and Diddy. The Bad Boy records founder—who made the phrase “shot callers” popular with his massive 1997 hit, “All About The Benjamins,”—digs the song so much, not only did he jump in the video, but he’s also on the remix. French tells XXLMag.com that there is a new version of his street hit in the making that features himself, Diddy and T.I.

“DJ Drama made that happen,” Montana explained about how he was able to get Tip on the remix. “[‘Shot Caller’ is] DJ Drama’ favorite record and I guess Tip was asking him what’s the hottest records to get on. DJ Drama was like when it comes to anything that deals with the East Coast, you gotta go through French Montana.”

French doesn’t expect to drop the remix for a couple of months so he can let the original continue to pick up steam. It has grown from the mixtape circuit, to strip clubs and now it is getting spins on the radio, especially NY radio stations like Hot 97 and Power 105.1 where is has become a staple for the last few weeks.

As for a French Montana solo LP, the buzzing artist is biding his time. He’s still a free agent and “weighing” his options while listening to suitors such as Diddy and Rick Ross, among others.

In the meantime, Montana is readying a joint street album with Waka Flocka Flame and a collaborative effort with Three 6 Mafia.
