ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Department of Transportation has put the brakes on any more red-light cameras on state highways.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the state wants to study the cameras' operation and safety records before approving installation any more cameras. But the nearly 90 cameras that have already been installed around the state will continue to operate.Interim state Transportation Director Kevin Keith said he doesn't want to eliminate using the cameras. But he said some communities appear to be using the cameras to make money, rather than improve safety.Keith says the agency has not decided exactly what the review of red-light cameras will cover.
