Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, has decided to grab the hardcore gaming audience by throwing 2,700 Modern Warfare 3 midnight launch parties with tournaments, gifts, and additional merchandise on sale. The best part — aside from the schwag — is that by attending any of the launch parties, people will be able to play the game before the official launch date. These will be in organized tournaments, and you’ll probably have to wait your turn, but you’ll be able to get your hands on MW3 multiplayer before everyone else.

The company has announced that it will host midnight launch events at stores in all 50 states, virtually guaranteeing that any gamer who wants to partake in the festivities will be able to find action near them.

Each store will host tournaments, but specifics weren’t given. Competitive players, this is your warning to expect rules and enforcement that vary from store to store. At the very least, the game will be playable by all comers before midnight.

In an age where retailers compete on bonuses that come with copies of a game, Wal-Mart is upping the ante by providing military-esque patches to those who buy at midnight.

For those not satisfied with commemorating their purchases with a patch alone, t-shirts and posters will also be on sale. The poster shows the game logo and a stylized 11.8.11 in honor of the game’s release date, and the t-shirts represent Call of Duty Elite, the franchise’s new subscription plan for new meta-game features.

Regardless of your location or time zone, the shindig will get started at 8:00 PM on Monday, November 7. Don’t show up on the 8th — that’ll be too late! That parties will happen from Anchorage, Alaska to Beeville, Texas, to Brunswick, Maine, so there is bound to be a location by you.
