Jackson County awards grants to domestic violence shelters

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders will present checks to three local domestic violence shelters during a special presentation on Wednesday.

A news release from the Jackson County Public Information Officer said the presentation will take place at the local domestic violence shelter New House.

New House, along with the Rose Brooks Center and Hope House will each receive a check in the amount of $26,350. Earlier this year, each shelter received a portion of $33,333 from the fund that the Jackson County Board of Domestic Violence Shelters manages, said the news release.

The Jackson County Domestic Violence Fund is generated through a combined state and county fee of $10 on all marriage licenses issued in the county and a $2 fee on all civil case filings in the county circuit court.
