KACHI DESIGNS Considered Fire Proof!!!

KACHI Designs is young Nigerian talent at its most creative display. Chigozie “Chichi” Anaele self taught herself to sew less than a year ago and birthed KAC HI DESIGNS. As an artist and entrepreneur, she transforms West African textiles and patterns into unstoppable and undeniable custom-made pieces. The concoctions of her designs are proven to be daring with an alluring appeal.

I was contemplating with the name for awhile. I kept throwing around the word “catchy” and that I wanted a name that was catchy. It dawned on me how I was describing my title with catchy and then the light came on. I took “catchy” to translate into “Kachi” (naija accent) and KACHI DESIGNS was born!”

What is your target audience for your collection?

“My target audience consists of the women who want to bring definition to their wardrobe. The daring fashionistas who are not afraid to display their confidence.”

Where are you based?

Bred in Houston, but culturally rooted from Nigeria. I was born in Nigeria before moving to London. Following London, my journey brought me to Houston, Texas where I am based.

Who are your favorite emerging designers and what is it that you love about them

I wouldn’t consider my selection of favorite designer as emerging because they are considered iconic in the fashion world. I love Marc Bower and the fierceness that his collections bring. I also adore Deola Sagoe from Lagos, Nigeria. She definitely has an eye for fashion and creating a glamorous work of art.

If you had to give men and women advice on style what would you say?

Always be unique in your own way.

What is your best attribute?

My creativity will be my best attribute. It expresses everything about me.

The newest KACHI DESIGNS collection, VanGlory, is out and delivered! There are no words to describe this well thought out collection of KACHI DESIGNS. In a matter of 5 weeks, she has brainstormed and concocted up designs in a manner that can be thought of as ludicrous. Life has definitely been a roller coaster for this budding Naija, the loss of her most recent collection due to a fire did not stop the movement in her needle. Long days and nights stood ahead of her to prepare for her day-view in New York for Africa Fashion Week “Where Fashion Began!” alongside Project Runway’s Kort Momolu!

But this young lady is far from delivering chic pieces, they are masterpieces to showcase every woman in rare form. With Africa Fashion Week behind her, she is set to showcase the collection at the Maryland Fashion Week on Sunday, August 14^th, 2011 for the “Washington Premier Fashion Showcase”.
